Community Visioning Kick Off

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

The kick off for Community Visioning, stage 3 of the Horizons Project, took place Thursday night at the Kimball School. Community Visioning is where participants from the Study Circles and Leadership Plenty come together and recruit other members from the community to help carry out the visioning process for their community. This process gives all community members the opportunity to work together, get more acquainted with one other and develop a better community.

Study Circle and Leadership Plenty participates brainstormed different key community projects or issues to focus on that will improve the voting.jpgKimball community. Kimball’s residents that attended the Thursday night meeting got to vote on four of the seven projects or issues. The results were very close. City-wide clean-up was the most popular with 22 votes. Following with: More affordable housing with 17 votes. The Food pantry and resource center received 16 votes. More businesses got 14 votes. Family and recreational activities received 14 votes. Entrepreneur development has 8 votes, which could be combined with more businesses.

The steering committee’s survey results came back with some fun and interesting ideas: Build a drive-in movie theatre where the old truck stop is. Put a roof over the pool for a year round, with water slides, heated pool and swimming exercise programs. More community activities like rodeos, street dances, movie night in the park…
