Next Horizons Meeting

The next Horizons meeting is Wednesday, January 13th @6:30PM in the Kimball School cafateria. Pizza will be served. A tentative agenda includes: Introduction of area Extension Agents, Comments by those who attended the recent Managing Your Business course, Committee reports and the Kimball Community Foundation. We welcome all of the Kimball Community to attend. Hope to see you there.

Kimball Chamber of Commerce Annual Fiesta (Meeting)

The Kimball Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual meeting on January 17, 2010 at the Kimball Legion Hall. The cost is only $12 per person. A social will start at 6pm with a fiesta style meal to follow. After enjoying a flavorful meal catered in by What’s For Dinner, the chamber will hold a brief meeting to recap the year and vote in the new board members. Enjoy the rest of the evening with your choice of casino games while listening to the creative local talent lead by Mrs. Sara Olson. Close the evening with prizes to bid on with your winnings and the breaking of a New Year piñata. Please RSVP by January 13th by calling Corinne @ 680-1794. The chamber would like to welcome all community members to come and join us for a fun filled evening.

Free Workshop Rescheduled

The free workshop in Ft. Pierre with Donna Beegle speaking has been rescheduled. It is now on Tuesday, January 5th at the AmericInn in Ft. Pierre. It starts with Session 1 at noon and Session 2 at 4PM.

Horizons December Meeting

Keeping Progress in Kimball

The Kimball Horizons meeting was held on December 1 at the school. After pizza and cookies, Dave Olson gave a brief overview of the Horizons program and the goal of creating a community resource center. We are in the third phase of our program.
Wayne Woodraska gave an update on a community newsletter. The January issue will be sponsored by First Dakota and February by Christiansen Land and Cattle. If you have any information of a community event or news that you would like to submit, please contact Wayne at 778-6358 or woodraskaw@gmail.com.
The committee on the housing is compiling a list of houses that need to be torn down, rented, sold and fixed up. The owners will be contacted prior to the project starting. If you have any property for sale or rent, you may currently contact Corinne Overweg 680-1794 or corinne@overwegrepair.com to have it listed on the Kimball website; www.kimballsd.org, that is sponsored by the chamber.
The resource center is applying for non profit status and looking for a physical location. They are working out details of how the community can work together to make it a reality.
The next meeting is January 13th, 6:30PM at the school.
We would like to encourage you to try to make the meeting and if you can’t please contact one of the committee heads to see what you can do to help the projects to progress along. Any help you can donate whether it be some of your time or a donation it will be much appreciated by all.

Haunted House

There was much anticipation for the gouls and ghosts in the Kimball Chamber of Commerce Haunted House. It was a big hit with over 200 people donating non-perishables or cash to go through the haunted house. The non-perishables will be stored until the new Kimball Resource Center opens. The Chamber would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help and made it so successful.

Horizon’s Meeting Recap

Thank you to those who made the meeting last night. Here is a recap of what was discussed for each goal. Please forward to anyone who may have interest in participating. We really need people to help participate in these goals in order to see them through!

Goal 1—developing a food pantry
Chairperson: Maria Birch bloomingradishes@gmail.com

• Working on establishing a interim 501C3, until we get a Horizon’s one established
• Gathering poverty stats
• Developing a yahoo discussion group/blog
• Working to develop a list of potential board members; clergy, community members, business people, potential users of the food pantry
• Identifying potential locations
• Contacting repo refridgerated trailers
• DATES TO WATCH
o TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th will meet with staff from SD community food pantry in Sioux Falls.
o September 10th, meeting at Lori Tonaks’s room at school—6:30 start time—this group will meet once a week in the beginning.

Goal 2—Improve appearance of Kimball
Chairperson:

• Call has been put into national guard
• Recruiting members

Goal 3—inventory available housing
Chairperson: Maynard Konechne

• Has recruited four committee members
• Working on housing inventory

Goal 4—Attract and encourage new businesses
Chairperson:

• Wayne Woodraska is working on developing a newsletter

Goal 5—To bring family movies into community three times in 2010
Chairperson:

• Looking into copywright/viewing obligations
