CITY WIDE CLEAN UP is scheduled for Saturday, June 12th and will be held rain or shine. Please meet at the Kimball school parking lot at 8:45 a.m. if you are volunteering for this event.
HOUSE PAINTING postponed until Sunday, June 27th at 1 p.m. If you were going to help paint, you could help at the Kimball Center instead.
Help is needed at KIMBALL CENTER (food pantry), 132 South Main Street on Sunday, June 13, starting at 1:00 p.m. We’ll be stocking shelves, cleaning the floor, moving in some furniture.
THANK YOU to everyone who is working so hard on all these projects. Because of you, Kimball is a better place in which to live, work, shop and play.

At the April 20, 2010 organizational meeting of the Kimball Area Horizons Team, Inc. Board of Directors, the following officers were elected:
President: Pam Geppert
Vice President: Nathan West
Secretary: Deb Gillen
Treasurer: Deb Reinesch
Other directors are: Pastor Lou Whitmer, Wayne Woodraska and Maynard Konechne.

On Friday, March 26, 2010, David Olson, Horizons Community Coach, and Kari Fruechet, Horizons Project Director, were on hand at St. Margaret Church to present the Kimball community with a check and other gifts in honor of the community’s graduation from Horizons III.
The Kimball Knights of Columbus prepared a pancake supper and supplemental funds were provided by Thrivent Lutheran. Proceeds are being donated to the Kimball Resource Center.
Nathan and Theresa West received the Business Award for temporarily housing the Kimball Resource Center at their Dakota Winds Motel. Because of their generosity, area families were able to receive food and other services.
Maynard Konechne received the Community Member Award for his years of work in bringing the Horizons program to Kimball and his leadership over the past eighteen months.

April 20th there will be an organizational meeting with the board of directors for the nonprofit organization that the Kimball Horizons group has been working on. Some of the topics will include: What is a Voluntary Nonprofit Corporation?, Clarifying the purpose of the organization being formed, The Role of the Board Members, Constituting the organization, Goals of the organization over the next three years, The Structure of the organization including committees and possible future CES workshops.

South Dakota Housing Development Authority announces the opportunity for 25 communities to participate in Paint South Dakota for 2010. SDHDA will provide paint and primer. A local volunteer group will be responsible for organizing the equipment, preparing and painting the house. In the past community members have provided meals for the volunteers, printed t-shirts and donated supplies. Painting dates are June 5, 12, 19 & 26, 2010.
The intent of the program is to help someone in need. The home must be a single family, owner-occupied residence in need of painting. The owner should be physically or financially unable to paint their home.
If your organization would like to paint a house or if you would like to apply or know of someone who would benefit from this program, please contact Maria Birch at 778-6369. Applications are due no later than April 9th.

The Tri-County Healthcare Education initiative is offering an RN Associates Program in Chamberlain starting this fall. Clinicals and classes will take place in Chamberlain with organized busing to the Pierre Capitol University Center campus. Associates Degrees will be awarded through the University of South Dakota School of Health Sciences.
Eight students will be accepted into the fall program. Applications are due by April 1st. High school seniors or others in the community who are interested in this opportunity should contact the MHCH Foundation at 605 778-6537 and speak with Judy. The MHCH Foundation will provide appropriate support in navigating the application process and pursuing financial aid opportunities.

A celebration is planned at the finish line for Kimball’s Amazing Race into the Future. Everyone is welcome, please bring your children. To celebrate this milestone event, the Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake supper at St. Margaret’s Church on Friday, March 26th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Other menu items include eggs, toast, coffee and punch, South Dakota State University ice cream and cake. Proceeds from this event will go to the Kimball Area Resource Center. Thrivent Financial will be matching up to $500 of any monies donated that day. Dave Olson, Horizons Community Coach and Kari Fruechte, Horizons Project Director will be on hand for presentation of the $10,000 check. The celebration will end with the giving of door prizes.
